PUMC Music Academy

Pineville United Methodist Church is the host of a Music Academy made up of a group of talented musicians and educators who teach private music lessons. Our educators are listed below.

Diana Matusa is an accredited violin and viola Suzuki and traditional teacher, teaching students as old as 4 years old.  She has a Master of Music with a Major in Violin, Orchestration and Aesthetics (Faculty of Composition, Musicology and Music Pedagogy) in Bucharest, Romania. She has over 27 years of violin and viola teaching experience.  She was a violinist with both the Radio and TV orchestra and National Opera in Bucharest and also a traditional violin teacher at George Enescu High School of Music in Bucharest before coming to the United States. Since arriving , she played for 10 years as first violinist with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and also with Union Symphony Orchestra. Her students play with the Charlotte Youth  Symphony as well as CMS Honors and Western Regional Orchestras and have obtained music scholarships at different colleges.  matusafd@aol.com

Rich Graham graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music degree and studied clarinet with members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His varied musical career included several national tours with vocalists of both the Metropolitan and New York City Opera, hundreds of shows (playing flute as well as clarinet, oboe and sax!), and many variety band productions. For several years Rich was also a clarinet soloist for the Nation’s largest Evangelical television network that reached a worldwide audience of over 100 million people with his signature song, “A Closer Walk With Thee”. He subsequently played for President Jimmy Carter as a featured Blues saxophone artist after studying “structured improvisation” for four years with North Carolina’s Godfather of Jazz, Bill Hanna. In addition, Rich had his own solo woodwind act for over a year at the Omni/Radisson Uptown Plaza Hotel in Charlotte and has performed at almost every Carolina military base as a member of both the Jerry Goodman Band and TPM Productions in Greensboro.  Rich played saxophone with the Charlotte Symphony and is currently a member of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra where he was appointed acting principal/ section clarinetist and has performed with the Union Symphony Orchestra.
