PINEVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD 2024

TO BE AWARDED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

CRITERIA:

 

  • Membership in Pineville United Methodist Church

  • Membership means a professing member; one who has taken the membership vows for Pineville United Methodist Church

  • Acceptance by an institution of higher learning including:

  • 2- or 4-year institution of higher learning

  • Community College

  • Vocational/Technical School

  • For the Wellene Griffin Scholarship, applicant must be accepted into a program within the Medical/Health Services field.

  • Completion of TYPED application (attached) and TYPED written essay.

  • Writing criteria for ALL essays:

Minimum 300-word essay; 12 pt font, Times New Roman, double-spaced. Essay should be saved as a PDF and uploaded at the end of the scholarship application form.

 

  • The Baker scholarship and the Wellene Griffin scholarship have two different essay topics. See pages 5 and 6 for those topics.

  • Please treat your essay with the seriousness of a college/job application.

  • A person can reapply each year scholarship (Baker and Griffin) for up to four years for each scholarship type.

  • A person in the medical/health services field may apply for BOTH the Baker and the Wellene Griffin Scholarships but the applicant must write two separate essays (see last 2 pages). Applying to both does not necessarily mean an applicant will be awarded both.

  • Deadline: The deadline for completed applications is May 15th, 2024 at 11:59 pm.

Applications must be submitted through the form found on the website. Applications (including essay) that are not complete and/or not received by the deadline will NOT be considered.

 

 

PINEVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH SCHOLARSHIP AWARD INSTRUCTIONS:

 

  • Applications are available by going to pinevilleumc.org/scholarships.

  • Answer every question and upload your essay (minimum 300 words).

  • Essay Requirements are on the next pages.

If you do not receive a confirmation from the church office confirming receipt of your application within 5 business days, contact: churchoffice@pinevilleumc.org or 704-889-2022.

 

  • DEADLINE: All applications must be received before midnight on May 15th, 2024. Late applications will not be considered.

 

 

 

PUMC Scholarship Essay Requirements

The Baker Scholarship

Essay Topic:

 

  • Topic for your first award/application:

Your reasons for wanting to continue your education, your career goal, and why you selected a particular career.

 

  • Topic for second, third, or fourth award/reapplication:

What have been the most rewarding and the most challenging parts of your educational experience?

How have you seen God at work in your educational experiences and/or life?

Your Essay should be typed and uploaded as a PDF with a minimum of 300 words. Please include a heading with your name and essay title as well.

 

 

The Wellene Griffin Scholarship

Essay Topic:

Your essay should cover these areas:

 

  • Explain the program you have entered (e.g. nursing, physical therapy, pre-med, etc.) and the area of interest for you within that field.

  • Topic:

For first year/award applicants:

o What motivated you to enter that field?

o After you have graduated, how do you see yourself using the experience from this education to make an impact on society or people’s lives?

For second/third/fourth year/award applicants:

o Now that you have experienced a year or more of education in your field, how has your attitude, feelings, and/or knowledge about the field changed or grown? What role do you think God played in this change?
